White privilege I couldn’t ignore

By

Last night attending a concert was like a trip to a zoo exhibit. Never in my life have I been in a massive crowd of that many middle aged white people and I’ve never felt less safe.

I will fully admit my 90s nostalgia got the best of me when I purchased those tickets, that band is not my normal style of music I listen to by any means.

I went to a venue I’ve been to exactly a year ago, and the difference between the two shows is one I can’t not notice and address.

Last year security groped everyone coming in- fully checking us all for weapons. Last night they just let us all in and didn’t check anyone’s purses in any form?? Why are kids at a ska show a major threat but a massive crowd of middle age white people isn’t?

The security check privilege freaked me out.

The massive crowd of mayo colored people sent me spinning so I tried to play my favorite grounding game of “find the felon” (when I’m uncomfortable I look for people like me, sue me). Well I scanned that entire crowd and the only people that had felonies that I found likely were domestic violence, sex charges, and DUIs- not the fun felons but the ones that make you cover your drink and cringe.

I need horns. Trumpets, saxophones, skanking kids that are a variety of colors and sizes. I was so happy to go back home to my diverse little city and get the fuck out of that gentrified cesspool that’s become Boston (they forced out all the lower income families that had been there forever and imported an entire class of ultra rich people- it’s sad).

Which brings me to my next beef- the capitalism of water at the same venue. Last year at the ska show all water was free. Last night they were charging everyone $5 for fancy ass bottled water that tastes like ass. They got away with it because they took one look at the line up and knew these people have life insurance/401ks/and 6 figure jobs so they gladly capitalized on that. Even charged 7 year old kids for water for Christ’s sake.

I’m apparently a specific brand of white people that doesn’t take too well when being thrown into a crowded box of saltines😭

I survived without vaping and have officially entered day 4🥳
