Next in this series I’m going to touch briefly on some of the failures I made in regard to social media. I can sum most of the mistakes up into one phrase- wasting my time.
“Rep groups” were a gigantic waste of my time and the time of my past reps as well. Never once did they generate any actual sales but I did tank my first Facebook group by doing those “join for join” chain style posts. When you do those on any form of social media many times it can damage your pages reach.
When you are having someone joining your groups and following your content solely for the reason of wanting you to return the same favor that isn’t organic growth nor is it leading to sales. It’s not getting interest because they actually give a crap about what you offer. Many rep groups are filled with bots as well as paid digital creators that spam groups for their monetized accounts.
As much as I understand where people can find influencers helpful for brands, giving just anyone the ability to monetize their content has started paying some obnoxious assholes. Giving a microphone and a paycheck to a douche bag and any group can go sideways quickly with spam posts. I’ve had groups with thousands of members but I found that the less members a group has on Facebook the more interaction and reach my posts were actually getting.
Last year I got a few certifications in social media marketing, a lot of what I learned in that course really fucked me up if I’m being frank. A few months into the courses and after completing four out of the six certifications I ended up not only dropping out but also walking away from my business completely. What Meta and companies do in regard to their sourcing of data and targeted ads just really made me feel quite gross.
After taking those courses I would never recommend someone taking the time to do the paid ads through Meta unless you have a ton of money to throw around. You can get a ton of views from the paid ads but those views rarely convert into sales, though meta analytics will make it seem as if your contents doing better than it actually is. The paid ads are a bidding system that really skeeved me out, I won’t be participating in that one again.
