
I survived yesterdays clo-pen double by the skin of my teeth. It may not seem like a lot but I haven’t worked an open to close double since 2020 when I got sick. I’ve only been doing single 4-5 hour shifts strictly since then so yesterday was double my normal. By the end my ability to be nice for money was non existent.
If you know a restaurant closes at 9pm and you show up at 8:30- you are a dickhead. Half the entrees at my work take 20-25 minutes to even cook so people doing that last minute stroll in is obnoxious- ESPECIALLY when they openly tell you they know you’re getting ready to close. If you know this, don’t continue the plan- find anywhere else.
I don’t want to jinx myself but the heat situation at my work seems to be semi improving. Customers aren’t turning around and leaving as soon as they come in and people are taking their jackets off again which is a plus. Our latest disaster has been the music no longer playing at all. Imagine a restaurant with people, the sounds of people eating and talking, but ZERO background noise. I’ve been alone with my own thoughts thanks to that one, it’s a crock of shit.
When stuff like this happens I do miss corporate. Working corporate restaurants sucks and has a ton of downsides but at least when it comes to bare minimum basics they always cough up the cash to make sure their businesses are continuing to run and generate income. My current owners have been buying up pre-running businesses left and right but don’t seem to actually give a fuck if they sink any of them. The drastic changes between each location is a wild one too. There’s a breakfast diner, a pizza spot, the Greek seafood spot I’m at, and most recently they bought a Chinese food place down the street from my apartment. Keep in mind the owners do not cook at all, they are just funding these ventures.
